Stallholders
We are very proud of Melbourne Community Farmers’ Markets, largely because of the fabulous range of stallholders we are fortunate to attract. They are hard working Victorian farmers and producers who make the trek to Melbourne each week – whatever the weather – to sell their produce direct to you! For most this isn’t a hobby or social outing, this is their livelihood and farmers’ markets have become their primary source of income.
What can you expect to find at a Melbourne Community Farmers’ Market?
With between 60 to 90 stalls at each market, the range of produce and artisan foods on offer is always quite staggering. Through every season you can certainly find everything you could need for your household’s fresh produce, stock your pantry with the essentials, whip up an incredible picnic and find a delicious gift for anyone – all without the food miles!
To start with there is always a great range of seasonal fruit and vegetables including organics and heirloom varieties throughout the year with specialties such as asparagus and cherries in Spring, garlic and berries in Summer, apples and nuts in Autumn, citrus and potatoes in Winter.
Then we have a huge range of free-range meats, again including organics and rare breed meats - beef, lamb, mutton, chooks, turkeys, venison, barramundi, salmon, pork and goat…
Cheeses are always well represented at Melbourne Community Farmers’ Markets and we always have goat, sheep and cows milk cheeses as well as freshly bottled milk, cream, yoghurt and ice-cream in Summer and Autumn.
Fresh bread is a staple at our markets and several of our farmers also transform their produce into tasty baked goods like rhubarb fruit cakes, meringues, fruit or meat pies and many other things to enjoy.
You’ll find the pantry essentials too such as olive oil, preserves, antipasto, honey, jams, sauces, chutneys, mayonnaise and the likes…
And whilst they usually aren’t edible, we will always have a selection of cut flowers at each market as well as herbs and seedling plants afor those who are inspired to grow their own!
In a nutshell, you needn’t come with a list and you’ll always go home with plenty!
